What's your EQ?
/Emotional Quotient test:
You just had a heated argument with someone (friend, spouse...) and you're both still upset about it. Do you:
A) Wait about 15 minutes and then calmly take it up again, so it can be resolved without festering.
B) Don't talk about it till the next day.
....
...
I bet you said A. You're wrong. It's B. Arguments are very physiological - your heart rate quickens, your mind races - fueled by adrenaline, your entire body is spun up (fight or flight stuff). It takes a long time for that to fully cool down - several hours at least. If you consciously DON'T talk about it for several hours, you allow each other to return to it in a completely calm state where you now can see each other's point of view more easily, you're both more apt to empathize the other's position and you have a better chance of working it out/making up.
Going with A can lead to one of you doing something regrettable, like saying something that can't be unsaid.
PS - Ideally you create take-aways/homework so the same thing doesn't repeat (take notes). Such as each of you understand that when X happens it makes me/them feel Y. So please try not to do X.
Lots of EQ tests online btw.
