Game theory

“Life is a dream for the wise, a game for the fool, a comedy for the rich, a tragedy for the poor.” - Sholom Aleichem

Amazing quote that I ran across in the book review section of a Saturday WSJ (paper btw :) ). But, I have a bone to pick with it regarding the dream vs game part.

Let’s start with the facts, I’m a fool. Hell I love touch football, charades, cards and sports betting (with friends, not casinos). But seriously life without games is just terrible. The self-challenge can be “someday earn enough to buy a house with a huge back yard” or it can be “learn how to become a more compassionate parent”. Games and goals can come in all shapes and sizes. Working towards something makes life fun. Sure, I realize that this absurdly abstract, sometimes surreal, finite, dream of life will end someday so let’s all keep it in perspective. But I’m here to tell you, a rudderless life without purpose is a boring ass dream.
